Utah Kills A Man, With A Firing Squad

Death Row inmate Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed in Utah in a "fitting" manner some say. He was in jail for the shooting deaths of two men. So, naturally, the state that Mormon's built took him out back and put him to death by firing squad. They pinned a target to his chest and fired away. This is the first time the death sentence has been carried out in such a manner in fourteen years. (only fourteen!?!)

Now, granted, he did terrible things, I just don't understand a firing squad.

We the people....

  1. It's what he requested, though. I don't get it, but he asked for the way he'd like to be executed. Giving choices of how you'd like to be killed, be executed, die, whatever, also makes me ponder and scratch my head.

"Ronnie, here's the death menu. What would you like to have done to you at the end of your term?"

  2. Utah put lethal injection in place as the accpeted method of execution in 2004. However, all those prisoners that were sentenced to death prior to 2004 had the option to choose between firing squad of lethal injection.
